Welcome to my Juice Cleanse Diary! Here you can read how I either love or suffer from my first juice cleanse that I'm doing during the next four days! Let's see how it goes... I usually don't need much food due to my small size but I enjoy eating so much that I bet it'll be hard for me.
I was sent a big box of cold pressed juices by the German juicery SuperDanke in Munich on tuesday. The package contained 20 juices and four nut milks - during the first two days you can still consume nuts which will make the change to the only-juice-diet easier. SuperDanke delivers all over Germany and when my fresh juices arrived, I couldn't wait to start my cleanse first thing the next morning.
Quick explanation on what a juice cleanse is. It's a detoxicating diet in which a person consumes only fruit and vegetable juices to obtain nutrition while abstaining from food entirely. Juice fasts usually last three days. The juice consumed during a juice fast produced from freshly cold pressed fruits and vegetables. Many people turn to cleanses because they feel off — they’re bloated and sluggish, dependent on caffeine and junk food cravings, breaking out. It's supposed to clean all your insides and give you an energy boost and many more amazing things (you can find a good article with all the advantages listed here!). I can't wait to see what happens! During my four cleanse days I'll be keeping a diary so you'll know how I felt during and afterwards and how easy or hard the process was.
9:00 I'm at uni. I've already had four cups of tea before the first lesson - I got myself a new pack of organic apple and cinnamon tea to cheer myself up and so I'll survive these days. Tea and ginger infused water are the only thing you should consume along with your juices. Well, I'm prepared! But I'm not prepared for my study buddies. They munch on rolls and sandwiches during class. Help. I'm not even hungry but the sight gets me longing. Back to the kitchen to get more tea - and I can't keep myself from having some sips of the first green juice. Apple, pineapple and spinach - so good! And I'm still not too hungry .. actually I'm quite sure I'm imagining the longing too.
9:30 Gosh I'm tired. I miss my coffee. I know I stayed up too late last night but the abstination doesn't make it easier. It's always this way, when I haven't eaten in a while I get tired and grumpy. And I think of food far too much.
14:00 I've had the two green juices so far and loved them! Only am I experiencing some kind of ups and downs when it comes to my tiredness, which is annoying. And I'm starting to get a headache. I read that this is really usual during detoxing - and I guess I didn't make it any better when I had some pizza slices last night! I know you should cut processed food, caffeine, alcohol and sugar the days before (and dairy and meat too if you eat those!) but I still had normal food and coffee everyday. Well, blame on me! Check out the pre-cleanse rules for my SuperDanke Cleanse in German here - and here's an english version for all the others!
15:00 I'm so hungry. I first have the apple and cucumber juice and then drink the almond milk too. I am not the fan of the cucumber juice but love the almond milk, which tastes sweet and much like cinnamon! But oops, there's only one juice left for today... Let's see if I have to help out. Because the headache is pounding, I'm tired and freezing and can't concentrate. It's like I'm ill! Some hot water with ginger and a blanket help a little.
17:45 My boyfriend came home early and we decided that we'll work out tonight - I'm doing the Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Workout at the moment which calls for three workouts a week. Now I definitely have to help my weak body out, SuperDanke says that you can have raw fruit and nuts if you need them and I decided that my body needs a kick on the first day (I hope I won't need it on the next days though, people on instagram told me that the first day is the worst!). I just have some unsalted nuts and feel much better already! It's fun to see how little food your body actually needs .. some nuts and I'm fine again!
20:15 I'm back from the workout. And guess what - it went easy peasy! I felt strong and good and light somehow - yes, I actually finished Kayla's week two arms and abs without any complications. Ok, I have to admit I still had half a banana before gym but still it's crazy to see how little food your body actually needs, because half a banana and some nuts for one day are nothing? Now I'm watching TV (the bachelor, those bikini bodies are my motivation!) and sipping on some almond milk and having some cups of tea afterwards and feeling just fine! I think this is kicking in!
