As you should know, I've been a fan of Primrose's Kitchen products for several months now (loving her raw mueslis and nut butters!) and when Primrose told me she'd send me some more things to try in January, I felt like I had won the lottery. January's goodie box was filled with three beautifully designed bags containing 100 % organic smoothie boosters: Beetroot seed sprinkle, Energy and Cleanse. Of course I've been making smoothies and juices with theese goodies ever since, and am now going to share what I think about them!
Beetroot Seed Sprinkle
The beetroot seed sprinkle contains beetroot powder blended with raw ground flaxseeds, sunflower seeds and almonds. Those seeds contain a lot of plant proteins and are a healthy source of fat in the form of omega 3 and 6 and a source of soluble fibre. Beetroot on the other hand contains potassium, magnesium, iron, vitamins A, B6 and C, folic acid, carbohydrates, protein, antioxidants and soluble fibre. All the things you body needs. Especially the protein is amazing if you do sports but don't eat any animal products. And moreover beetroot lowers you blood pressure! All these things make your smoothie an absolute supersmoothie, when you add a teaspoon of the supersprinkle! But you can also add it to pancakes, oatmeal or yogurt (like in the picture below) if you want a proteinboost, a sweetish taste and yummy chrunchiness or just a nice pink colour! The sprinkle can be bought here!
Energy Smoothie Booster
This is the booster which's effects you'll feel straight away. It's made of maca, sprouted hemp protein, moringa and cordyceps mushroom. No idea what those are? Ok, lets start with the maca: It's a root from Peru, that was already taken by the ancient Incas to increase their strength and stamina – something to think about before a big workout! And maca actually wakes you up like coffee. That's the effect I meant. Hemp protein is another strengh booster to be taken before working out. Hemp seeds are seeds from the cannabis plant (oops, I didn't know this before!) and are full of proteins and fatty acids, that you usually get from meat, so these are the perfect alternative for vegans! Moringa is a 100% organic green superfood made from the naturally-dried leaf of the moringa tree. It consists of 20% protein and is a natural multivitamin boost. And the last one, cordyceps mushrooms improve immunity by stimulating cells and specific chemicals in the immune system. All-over a super healthy energy booster in you smoothie or juice before your workout! The booster tastes a lot like maca, which has a strong nutty taste, but it goes well with banana and oats! Cleanse Smoothie Booster
The cleanse smoothie booster is the one I use most. I add a teaspoon to my morning juice almost daily and my body will be cleansed of all nasties. You should especially use this after over-indulging on salt or alcohol! This smoothie booster will get your body back on track! The ingredients are a bit more familiar to me than the other ones were. Chlorella is a microalgae that detoxes and support your liver, gallbladder and kidneys and renews your cells with iron, manganese, Vitamin B6 & B12. The B-vitamines are really important for you if you're vegan, because otherwise you only get those from meat! Wheatgrass is high in Vitamin A, antioxidants and is a good source of essential fatty acids, which is good for your skin. Wheatgrass powder also helps control weight by reducing the feeling of hunger and increasing fullness! So take it in the mornings to feel less hungry through the day! Barley grass provides vitamins and minerals and triphala improves your digestion and liver functions. As I said - perfect after snacking on chips or fries or having a night out in a bar to get back on track! You can get the Cleanse booster here!
For the cleansing morning juice mix 1 glass of organic apple juice, 1 tsp lemon juice and 1 tsp of the Cleanse powder. The sour taste of the lemon will cover all the algae tastes, which I think makes them a perfect match!
